Cane mill road, deep gap, NC
Growing up just down the road from Doc Watson, Billboard-charting artists Cane Mill Road rock the traditional bluegrass standards they were raised on, yet boldly write original music with roots in the fertile grounds of bluegrass, old-time, blues, jazz, and Americana.
The four young men roam the Blue Ridge Mountain backroads driving between Deep Gap, NC and Rocky Gap, VA to meet and make music — thus the title track of the band’s latest album Gap to Gap. The title signifies more than just the long hours on the road touring, but the spaces between the bluegrass foundation of the band’s youth and the new spaces of music they create together. Honoring the past, the band looks to the future with a blended set of traditional and contemporary music.
The band's new live album will debut this summer.
Peers in the bluegrass industry voted Cane Mill Road as one of five nominees for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum Band-of-the-Year for 2018. Cane Mill Road’s banjo player, Tray Wellington, was nominated for IBMA’s Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year.
From internationally in Argentina to stateside across the country, Cane Mill Road plays the most iconic festivals including Wide Open Bluegrass, MerleFest, Grey Fox, Delaware Valley, Silver Dollar City, Ogden Music Festival, Outer Banks BGF, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, Carolina in the Fall, Shakori Hills, OcraFolk..just to name a few.
The band is sponsored by: Deering Banjos, GHS Strings, Sorenen Mandolin & Guitar Company, Kogut Violins, Shubb Capos, and MiniFlex Microphones.
